I Left My Heart In...

the mail?

Yep- it's time to get my Golden Heart ready for her maiden flight... and I found all my little panicky questions answered here - could it be any easier??? Nope. Why, oh why don't more resources put these kinds of instructions out there- like perhaps on the contest site itself?!

Well, anyhow- thanks Vancouver Island RWA- who in conjunction with Google made it all possible.

If I win, I will be sure to add you both to my acceptance speech! (Now, see- making promises like that will surely tempt fate... don'tcha think?)

The Breaded Synopsis

Yes, I am trying to give the dreaded synopsis a new image, a more enticing one, and nothing makes food more pleasant than breading it! Just look what it has done for the eggplant!

See, the synopsis is the equivalent of the “So tell me a little about yourself” question in the interviewing process. It sounds so simple, but it’s hard to pick and choose what to say, what is relevant and what will wow them.

Most people hate them. I can see why. I got really depressed when I tried my hand at it the first time- but then I realized my problem: I was trying to summarize a 900 page + book. And if it took me 900 pages to write the book, I guess it is safe to say I can be a little long in the wind. Whateves. I’m working on it.

SO, yes- it is time to revise my synopsis for the Golden Heart, and as it stands it is 14 pages (double spaced). I’d like to cut that down to more like 5-8 pages, for a number of reasons… And after perusing other blogs (see there is a benefit- it’s not just about procrastination) I’ve become inspired.

Jennifer Crusie does this collage thing (and here)- very artsy- and while looking at them, I thought- you know, I bet this helps cut to the core of the story without losing its spirit (which is usually what happens when I first try to summarize). So, I’m going to work on a collage for my YA- and hopefully that will help me summarize without squeezing any of the life out of my story!

Besides, who doesn’t love a glue gun?? (Okay, I can hear you, you're saying- sounds like just more procrastination. But who clicked on the link to go see Jennifer Crusie’s crafts? Huh?)
